1:51 Study Buddies
We had a lovely afternoon working with our study buddies in Mrs. Rollin's class today! This was our second time getting together.
Uploaded Oct 21, 2014
Each pair (or trio) had the choice of getting to know each other better by either drawing or working on the iPad. It was so fun to see all the creative things they did together!! -
00:59 Emergent Reading
In Reading Workshop, we are working through a unit titled Emergent Readers. In this unit, students are using familiar texts to learn critical reading skills such as incorporating character voice and utilizing story vocabulary. These building blocks will strengthen not only their reading ability and accuracy, but also their reading comprehension. Watch these skills in action!

3:41 Kindergarten Names
Each day during the first two weeks of school we learned about everyone in our class by studying their names. We looked at their name, noticed special things about the letters in their name, listened as they shared their "All About Me" bag, and practiced writing their name. One other thing we did was help each kindergarten write a name poem about their own name! This name poem incorporated beginning letters and sounds as well as the reading of environmental print. I had a bunch of logos at the bottom of our ActivBoard and the student picked one to read to us and add to his/her poem. They loved showing us all the BIG words they already know how to read! Here is a video of each child reading his/her own name poem.

1:37 Fill the Triangle
On Tuesday we discussed the 2 dimensional shape, triangle. We discussed the prefix "tri" and remembered to use our "grown-up" words such as vertices, edges, and points when describing the triangle. Afterwards, students took a paper triangle and tried to figure out how to fill it in completely using our pattern block shapes. I placed 1 iPad on each table for students to take pictures of their solutions to this problem. Check out the video of our learning (notice how quiet the room was while they were working...talk about engaged in your work)! FYI--I took the videos, students took all the still images.

00:34 Happy Song
Each Friday, we will be sending home the Poetry Folder. This folder will contain the poem that we have been working on throughout the week. This week's poem was titled Happy Song. We loved practicing our poem and identifying the rhyming words. Everyone is excited to share our poem with their families over the weekend! Please practice this poem with your child over the weekend and return the folder on Tuesday, after the long weekend. Have a great Labor Day!

00:08 Silkworms
Our silkworms have emerged from their cocoons! During the last month of school, we watched our silkworms munch on lots of mulberry leaves. They went through the transformation from the larvae stage to pupa stage by forming a cocoon around themselves. When school dismissed last week, Ms. Webb took wonderful care of our cocoons. This week, several of them emerged into silk moths! Enjoy this short clip of our silk moths.
