In math, we are working on strategies to solve addition and subtraction word problems. Today, we used the Educreations app to practice open number lines. Open number lines are a great strategy because they provide students a visual model and engage students in decomposing numbers. Please enjoy a few pictures and videos from our math time this morning.

00:24 Pattern Books
In Writing Workshop, we have been working on writing our own pattern books, reflective of the types of books we are reading in Reading Workshop. Patterned books have words that repeat on each page and can sometimes have a little twist at the end. Through writing patterned books, we have been working on writing conventions, such as word spacing, sight word spelling and capitalizing the first letter of the sentence.
