• 00:18 Reader's Workshop: Book Reviews

  Students work hard each morning at Reader's Workshop! Our workshop model includes a mini lesson, independent reading time, and a share time. This week, our mini lessons have focused on writing book reviews. During independent reading time, students have been creating book reviews on a book of their choosing. • 1:36 A Polar Express Surprise!

  Thank you for all your help in pulling off such a fun surprise!! The students found a train ticket underneath their chair this morning, and their warm, snugglies were passed out shortly afterward. Once we we all bundled up, we listened to one of my favorite holiday stories, "The Polar Express!" The students received their own sleigh bell. Hot chocolate and marshmallows awaited students at their desks as we listened to a re-read of the wonderful story. We then completed some fun reading comprehension and writing activities together. Each student received a special bell necklace to remember our fun morning !

  We LOVE brain breaks! After long hours of learning and working hard, we all deserve a little break. Brain breaks are a fantastic way for us to get moving and get all of our wiggles out. Laughing and dancing are the perfect remedies for any tired Kindergartner. Check out everyone's sweet moves!!

  Yesterday before the rain, we got the chance to meet with the Master Gardener and learn about ways to keep the garden happy. We picked lettuce from our lettuce plant and also found where the worms were eating our broccoli. We also got to throw seed balls into the wildflower garden!

• 4:55 Community Helpers: Highland Park Fire Fighters visit Armstrong Elementary

  On Friday we had such a great time meeting several members of the Highland Park Fire Department. We learned about fire safety, as well as their jobs as fire fighters. They even let us check out their truck!!!
