1:31 Persuasive Book Recommendations
One of the pieces students published during our persuasive writing Writing Workshop unit was a book recommendation. After editing and revising the written recommendations, we met in the library with our 2nd grade buddies. Our buddies used iMovie on their iPads to record the book recommendations. This video shows just a little of this recording process and just a few of the recommendations from our class--all of this was done in a single 30 minute session together! An important aspect of writing in our class is for students to see authentic purposes for writing in their own lives. Having their written recommendations come alive with the help of their buddies provides that authentic purpose which motivated students to continue writing more and more!

00:20 Releasing Our Class Butterflies
Over the past couple of weeks, our class has been able to watch the life cycle of a butterfly. We watched as our caterpillars made cocoons then hatch into beautiful butterflies. After a few days observing and feeding the butterflies, we decided to let them go free in the butterfly garden. We had such a great time watching our caterpillars transform!

00:35 Mailing Letters
Here's a quick little video showing the students mailing one of their persuasive letters from Writing Workshop. We took a short walk today to the mailbox at the corner of Abbott & Cornell as a culminating activity in our persuasive writing unit. Some students wrote letters to family members or staff members at school which will be hand-delivered. Other students chose to write & mail letters to individuals we don't personally know, such as Mayor Lane, Mayor Williams, Governor Abbott, President Obama, the HP police department, and Dr. Orr to convince them to do something. Some students also wrote to businesses including Souper Salad, GameStop, and McDonalds. Stay tuned to learn about how we published a persuasive book recommendation!

00:17 QR Code Hunt
The students had a great time on their QR code hunt around the room this morning! Students could hunt for QR codes hidden throughout the classroom. These QR codes took them to various websites that reviewed and supported our classroom learning. For instance, students reviewed 2 digit addition and subtraction, learned about the parts of a plant, and watched famous actors/actresses read popular children's books. Take a peak into the classroom with this short video and a few photos. Have a wonderful weekend!
