In this unit, students are using familiar texts to learn critical reading skills such as incorporating character voice and utilizing story vocabulary.   Here's a quick little video showing the students mailing one of their persuasive letters from Writing Workshop. We took a short walk today to the mailbox at the corner of Abbott & Cornell as a culminating activity in our persuasive writing unit. Some students wrote letters to family members or staff members at school which will be hand-delivered. Other students chose to write & mail letters to individuals we don't personally know, such as Mayor Lane, Mayor Williams, Governor Abbott, President Obama, the HP police department, and Dr. Orr to convince them to do something. Some students also wrote to businesses including Souper Salad, GameStop, and McDonalds. Stay tuned to learn about how we published a persuasive book recommendation!
