00:51 Emergent Storybook
For Reading Workshop, we started something called "Emergent Storybook" this week. That means we read the same story every day for 5 days. Each day, we practice a different aspect of storytelling as a class. Here’s a video of Day 5, from this morning.

Day 1 - Look at the cover, think about what we already know, take a picture walk, read the book.
Day 2 – Think about the special vocabulary the author used when writing the story. We use that vocabulary in our retelling (mother, father, sprinkled)
Day 3 – Character voice: we try to use special voices for the characters!
Day 4 – Students retell the story to me!
Day 5 – Retell the story using our storytelling props.
Your child will take these storytelling pieces home today and can tell you the story of The Carrot Seed, by: Ruth Krauss. -

00:34 Happy Song
Each Friday, we will be sending home the Poetry Folder. This folder will contain the poem that we have been working on throughout the week. This week's poem was titled Happy Song. We loved practicing our poem and identifying the rhyming words. Everyone is excited to share our poem with their families over the weekend! Please practice this poem with your child over the weekend and return the folder on Tuesday, after the long weekend. Have a great Labor Day!

00:31 Peer Revising During Writer's Workshop
Our class loves to write during Writer's Workshop! In second grade, we go through all five stages of the writing process: Prewriting, Drafting, Revising, Editing, and Publishing. This past week, we revised and edited our All About expository pieces. In this clip, a student reflects on her experiences revising with a partner. Students use the acronym ARMS (Add, Remove, Move, Substitute) to remember what good writers do when they revise. Enjoy the clip!
