00:54 Subtraction with Regrouping
In math, we are starting our unit on subtraction with regrouping. We are using manipulatives (base ten blocks) so that students really understand why and how to regroup. When solving the problem 72 – 38, students are learning to regroup a ten and exchange it for ten ones in order to solve. According to our standards, students are asked to subtract numbers up to 999 in second grade.

As our books continue to get harder, our repertoire of reading strategies increases. Moving through text levels, books begin to tell more about things that are happening and what thshe characters are doing. We extra strengthened our picture power to further support the type of reading that we are doing. This looks like saying EVERYTHING that is happening in the picture before actually reading the page.

The students are busy reading and engaging with fantasy stories. They are stepping into the magical world of fairy tales, folktales, and fables. Students became actors and storytellers this week to reenact the stories they are reading. This not only helps students better understand this genre, it also builds fluency and comprehension.
