WELCOME TO ART!

Posts

Hello, parents!

All of you should have received an email a couple of weeks ago inviting you to Armstrong's online art gallery, Artsonia. I will be using this digital gallery to display your child's beautiful artwork throughout the year.

What is Artsonia?
Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Every child can have an online art gallery and keep their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!

Each student has a unique account consisting of his or her first name and a random number to protect their identity. Parents, family, and approved friends can comment on artwork as well as order gifts and products featuring your child’s artwork. What I love most about this website is that it allows students to reflect more deeply on their creations, write artist statements, and tell their stories about what they have made. Expressing themselves while looking closely at art will help students understand the value that art has in their lives, better connect with others, and think more critically.

Another benefit of using Artsonia is the ability to share your child's artwork with friends and relatives who live far away, whether this be online or by purchasing a gift. Twenty percent of all purchases are given directly to the Armstrong art program.

Additional information is available at http://www.artsonia.com/.

Parent permission is required to display your child’s work. Please follow directions on the website if you wish to grant permission. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I am excited about the year!

Students have the opportunity in art class to visit stations. Each station has a different creative activity such as collaborative painting, chalk art, drawing, collage, and sculpture.
4th Grade art classes have been busy creating Roy Lichtenstein-style self-portraits. They are learning about how choosing a variety of line types in a design can make it more aesthetically interesting. They have also learned about Benday dots and why Roy Lichtenstein included them into his large-scale paintings.

We had a fabulous first week of school in the Eagles Art Studio! Students learned about the art room routines, drew their first drawing inside their new sketchbooks (a minion!), and even got to creatively express themselves with paint!

Have you seen the bulletin board outside of the art room? Students, along with their parents and teachers, are welcome to grab a sticky note, write or draw what art means to you on it, and then return it to the board. It will be up for a few weeks. Paint, draw, write, and most importantly, be creative!
