HPISD Board of Trustees approves Rockwood as superintendent

A community Meet and Greet will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20 at the district’s William P. Clements Jr. Leadership Center located at 6900 Douglas Ave.

"My family and I are so excited to join Highland Park ISD," Dr. Mike Rockwood said. "It's not just one thing that makes public education great, it's all things working together to ensure we are moving in the right direction and I look forward to working with trustees, the staff, our parents and members of the community to continue to elevate HPISD's tradition of excellence."

Dr. Rockwood most recently served as the Lake Dallas ISD Superintendent, where he led the district to new academic heights during his two-year tenure. This includes earning record state accountability ratings at every elementary campus, while the high school was simultaneously named one of the U.S. News & World Reports ‘Best High Schools’ in the country. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Baylor University along with a master’s degree in strategic public relations from The George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in communications from Texas A&M.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Rockwood and family“On behalf of the Board, we are more than thrilled to welcome Dr. Mike Rockwood and his family to Highland Park ISD,” Board President Tom Sharpe said. “We are confident that Dr. Rockwood exemplifies the superintendent characteristics most valued by our community, and we have the utmost confidence that he will successfully build upon the great tradition of excellence our community has come to expect throughout our 100-plus year history as a premier school district.”

The search for a new superintendent began in November 2022, following an announcement from Superintendent Dr. Tom Trigg that this school year would be his last in HPISD. Dr. Trigg will remain with the district through the end of June to assist with the transition.
