Armstrong Parent-Teacher Association

On November 19, 1914, the John S. Armstrong Parent-Teacher Association of Highland Park was organized with a stated purpose: "to raise the standard of home and school, and to bring parent and teacher into a closer relationship with each other that they may cooperate more intelligently in the educatin of the child, and combine their efforts in the training for better citizenship."

The Armstrong School PTA has continued this time-honored tradition of parental involvement and support through volunteer service in diverse areas. Options for servie include: Committees for the Auction, Cafeteria, Carnival, Field Day, First Day Packets, Hospitality, Library-Media Center, Memory Book, New Families, Open House, Safety Committee, Sally Foster Gift Wrap, Scouting Program, Spirit Committee, Supply Room and Teachers' Workroom.

PTA fund-raising activities, including the Armstrong Carnival, Sally Foster Gift-Wrap Sales and the Fall Auction Event, raise funds to provide improvement needed for our students, faculty and staff while promoting school spirit by bringing parents, faculty and students into a closer relationship.

Each spring, a Nominating Committee, consisting of one member from each grade level, the PTA President and all "elect" positions, nominates PTA Board Members. Nominees are then elected or approved by the current PTA Board. Any parent wishing to be considered is encouraged to submit his/her name when Board and committee chairperson volunteer forms are distributed. Nomination forms for positions on the PTA Roster will begin the week after Thanksgiving vacation; please pick up a form in the office to submit your parent volunteer committment for 2010-2011 school year with Laura Nell Morrow as your next year's PTA president.
